Second circular - Tanzania Geological Society 2018 annual meeting and workshop

The Tanzania Geological Society announces the TGS 2018 Annual Meeting and Workshop on “The role of geoscientists in the Tanzania Industrial Development”. The workshop and meeting will take place in Dodoma in the end of August 2018.

1. THEMES

The workshop will cover EIGHT sub-themes (as listed below); we are inviting abstracts for ORAL and POSTER presentations that will fit to the listed sub-themes.

  1. Energy for industrial development
  2. Small scale mining in Tanzania
  3. Legal and regulatory framework in the Tanzania’s mining sector
  4. New updates in the geology of Tanzania
  5. Mine waste and water management
  6. Geo‑tourism and geo‑ethics for industrial sustainability
  7. Environmental management and conservation in extractive industry
  8. Entrepreneurship and innovation in extractive industry

2. VENUE AND DATES

The workshop and meeting will be held at DODOMA HOTEL in Dodoma between 26th August and 31st August 2018.

3. WORKSHOP ABSTRACTS

Abstracts will be accepted for either oral or poster presentation. After submission, all abstracts will be reviewed and accepted by the scientific committee and successful authors will be notified. Abstracts can either be submitted to the TGS via email, info@tgs.or.tz, or via our website on registration portal.

4. ORAL AND POSTER SESSIONS

Oral and poster sessions will be focusing on the mentioned sub-themes.

During submission of abstracts, authors should indicate their preference of either oral or poster presentation. The standard for the poster is A0 format (Portrait; Width 841 x Height 1189 mm). Everyone opting for poster presentation will be assigned a space for the display of his or her poster.

5. REGISTRATION FEE FOR WORKSHOP

Registration to the workshop will be done online through our website, whereby the portal for registration will be open until 31st July 2018. Payments of fees for the workshop registration should be done directly to the TGS bank account:

6. EXCURSIONS

There will be two excursions that are organised by the TGS workshop committee:

1. An excursion along Dodoma – Mtera route

Geology of the region
Mtera Dam
Electricity plant(not yet confirmed)

2. An excursion from Dodoma to Kondoa‑Irangi
What to see?
Geology of the region
Archaeological site (~ 50 Ka rock paintings)

More information on costs and logistics for these excursions will be provided in the third workshop circular.

7. INVITATION – TGS PARTNERS TO THE WORKSHOP

Institutions and companies are invited to participate in the TGS 2018 workshop through PRESENTATION in one of the themes and/or EXHIBITION of various activities undertaken by institutions or companies.

Organising committee is kindly requesting interested companies or institutions to be one of the sponsors for this scientific event. Categories for sponsorships and some of the benefits of sponsors’ contribution will be acknowledged into three categories as follows:

Bronze Sponsor TShs 2,500,000 – 4,000,000/=

  • Two free membership registrations
  • Space to mount booth to showcase company/institution activities
  • Company logo will appear on the book of abstract

Silver Sponsor TShs 5.000,000 – 14,000,000/=

  • All bronze sponsor opportunities above
  • One half-page advertisement in specific conference program

Gold Sponsor TShs > 15,000,000/=

  • All of opportunities for both silver and bronze sponsors above
  • Two additional membership registrations
  • One full-page advertisement in the conference program
  • Distribute company information in attendee registration packets
  • Five minutes oral presentation about the company activities on the opening day
